Hogs Embrace Coach’s Excitement, Work Ethic.
The Arkansas Razorbacks hosted media days just two practices into the new season. One thing is clear, the players have taken on the enthusiasm of their coaches. Head Coach Chad Morris has brought a renewed swagger to a group of athletes coming off of a disappointing season. His high powered fast-tempo offense has engaged athletes and fans alike, while Defensive Coordinator John “Chief” Chavis has rejuvenated a defense with a lot of returning talent.
The quarterback job is wide open, with Cole Kelley and Ty Story sharing first-team reps, but redshirt freshman Dalton Hyatt is getting some attention. The running back position is stacked as well, with up to 6 guys fighting for playing time. Morris said there is no timetable for a decision at either position. The tight end position is deep as well, and each talked about the opportunity to line up all over the field in the new offense.
Defensively, they return a lot of talent. With experience along the line and linebackers, look for the strength of last years defense to improve, led by Santos Ramirez. Having already graduated, Ramirez was able to dedicate the summer to his game and showed the maturity and physical makeup you want in a leader.
If Arkansas can make a bowl game under a first-year head coach, they will have truly achieved at a high level. And did we mention, they just had possibly the best week recruiting in the modern era?
